Through an exciting and engaging project based curriculum, at Grasmere we strive to prepare our pupils for their next steps in their learning. Using a book-based approach to literacy teaching, our pupils will be immersed in a range of text types in a variety of ways to help deepen their understanding of purpose and audience, language, vocabulary and appreciation of literary heritage. Through purposeful and carefully sequenced lessons, pupils will develop a growing awareness of the world around them whilst establishing positive learner qualities which builds independent and resilient learners. We aim to promote an understanding of the power of reading and the enjoyment that comes with being able to read to function in everyday life as well as escape to imaginary worlds. By building our reading community, which bridges home and school, at Grasmere we promote high aspirations.
